Today, a brave Emirati son, astronaut Hazza Al Mansoori, will embark on a mission to the International Space Station, marking the country’s burgeoning space sector goals and objectives.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) on Sunday announced that Emirati astronauts Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Neyadi are ready to work on the International Space Station (ISS) after receiving the astronaut’s pin from NASA’s Johnson Space Centre following the completion of their general training that lasted around 20 months.
Hazzaa was honoured as part of the university's efforts to support the country’s space sector.
The Emirati astronaut captioned the video, “A question for smart people and physics lovers, waiting for your answers… 🔎”
The July 20 blast off comes on the same date that NASA’s Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon in 1969, marking a defining moment in the so-called “Space race” with the Soviet Union.
The prime crew continued their preflight preparations at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The main crew include Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka (commander), NASA astronaut Jessica Meir (flight engineer) and space flight participant Hazzaa Al Mansouri (UAE).
